Plant Care (A Brief Guide)

Although all kinds of plants need water, light, CO2, and nutrients in photosynthesis, each plant still requires a care which is slightly differrent from the others'. The following information can be followed as a guideline in order to keep your plants healthy as long as it could be.


Note that the guideline below only refers to the condition in Thailand which the direct sunlight and the temperature are pretty high especially in the midday.

Anthurium

 


  • Potting mix should be a loosely substrate, e.g. coco chips.
  • The plants prefers shaded sunlight. About 50-60% shading is recommended.
  • Water them once a day /or every two days - depending on substrate/weather condition
  • Never let any residue water sit in a saucer over long period.
  • In case that a fertilizer is needed, might follow this guide ...
    • Slow-released fertilizer is recommended; 1-2 grams per pot, every 1-2 months.
    • Do not let the fertilizer touch the leaves if possible.

Begonia

 


  • Potting mix should be a loosely nutrient-full soil/substrate.
  • Begonia prefers dimmed sunlight and no direct sunlight at all.
  • Water them once a day /or every two days; no soaking; do not let the flower and leaves wet.
  • Never let any residue water sit in a saucer over long period.
  • In case that a fertilizer is needed, might follow this guide ...
    • Slow-released fertilizer is recommended; 1-2 grams per pot, every 1-2 months.
    • Do not let the fertilizer touch the leaves if possible.

Bromeliad

 


  • Potting mix should be a loosely nutrient-full soil/substrate mixed with some sand; good water flowing property is a must.
  • Lighting, follows these guideline ...
    • The species with hard leaves requires more light; however, leaving the plant in prolonged direct sunlight is not recommended.
    • The species with soft leaves prefers dimmed sunlight.
    • Nevertheless, after you have been caring the plant for a while, you can observe plant's leaf color to evaluate whether current lighting condition is correct. If the leaf color is pale green, then the current lighting is too strong for them. In contrast, dark green means the plant got less light than what it needs.
  • Good air ventilation is required; prefers temperature between 23-38 degrees Celsius. Generally, the species with thin leaves can better endure higher ambient temperature.
  • Bromeliad requires less water than any other plants; water when 1-2 inches from the top of potting mix is dry; do not let the water stuck on the top/leaf cup.
  • In case that a fertilizer is needed, might follow this guide ...
    • Slow-released fertilizer is recommended; 1-2 grams per pot, every 1-2 months.
    • No fertilizer should be leave on the top/leaf cup.

Cyclamen

 


  • Potting mix should be a loosely nutrient-full soil/substrate.
  • Cyclamen prefers dimmed sunlight; 50-60% shading is recommended.
  • Water them once a day /or every two days; no soaking; do not let the flower and leaves wet.
  • Never let any residue water sit in a saucer over long period.

Fern

Dwarf Amazonica

 


  • Potting mix could be a loosely nutrient-full soil. Substances such as chopped dry coconut shell and decaying wood/stem are advised.

  • Keep the ambient temperature between 20-35 degrees Celsius.
  • Water them once a day or two days; no soaking.
